"It was horrible! At 7 p.m. in the heroes' cemetery, the Druze ( chainsaws - ed. ) sounded as if they were cutting the forest. Crowded people, eating, drinking, joy... What kind of respect is this for heroes, even for the one who is there, or if there are more, then for them as well?" - said Csaba Borboly, chairman of the Hargita County Council, referring to the fact that, according to the records, only one soldier of Romanian nationality was buried in the Úzvölgy cemetery at that time.
Organized by the Cale Neamului (Way of the Nation) Association, about a hundred people arrived on Saturday at the pre-announced time at the Úzvölgy military cemetery to erect 150 wooden crosses in place of the 50 concrete crosses that had been placed illegally and then removed as a result of a court decision. As is known, Dormánfalva (Dormănești) in Bákó County previously arbitrarily erected a memorial to the Romanian soldiers who are believed to be buried there, but it soon became clear, and even the Romanian authorities admitted, that the Romanian soldiers who died in the First and Second World Wars were not he was laid to rest there, but in the cemetery of Comănești heroes.
The reality, however, is less disturbing to the followers of Calea Neamului, led by dentist Mihai Tîrnoveanu from Brasov, who arrived at the Úzvölgy cemetery by bus on Saturday at 2 p.m., at the predetermined time, at the entrance of which the Csíkszentmárton municipality's Friday decision on the cemetery rules was clearly posted.
Despite the complaint
Csaba Borboly, the chairman of the Hargita County Council, previously reported Mihai Tîrnoveanu, the head of the Calea Neamului Association, for the pre-planned violation of the rules, as well as arson, vandalism and trespassing,
However, the members of the extremist organization were not affected by this, nor by the relevant government decree establishing law and order, they entered the cemetery and began the preparations for erecting the wooden crosses.
Sándor Birtalan, the mayor of Csíkszentmárton - on whose territory the military cemetery is also located - previously told MTI that the residents of the Székelyföld village are not preparing for Úzvölgye, they do not want to respond to the provocation. "We trust the Romanian justice system and that the gendarmerie and police do their job," he declared.
More Romanian crosses are about to be placed in the Úzvölgy military cemetery
In full view of the authorities
The members of the Romanian organization were able to start erecting the wooden crosses undisturbed. They also brought two high-performance drilling machines, but they also dug the holes for the reinforced bases of the crosses by hand. The territory violation and the unauthorized conversion of the military cemetery are taking place before the eyes of the authorities.
Romania TV reported live on the Úzvölgy event. The reporter on the scene explained almost ecstatically that the Romanians had united and were performing an "exemplary act" in the cemetery, where the memorial sites of the "Romanian heroes" were "razed to the ground with a bulldozer", and the members of Calea Neamului are now restoring normal conditions.
He didn't say a word about the fact that they entered an area without a permit, which had a final court decision to restore it to its original state, or that Dormánfalva in Bákó County had registered the area in its own name and illegally set up the concrete crosses, which it itself removed.
We asked Maria Plumbu, the spokesperson of the Hargita County Police Headquarters, why they do not intervene when the illegal cemetery rearrangement is obviously taking place despite the knowledge and presence of the police. However, we have not received an answer yet, he asked for time and promised detailed information later.
After consulting with his colleagues and superiors, the spokesman told Maszol on the phone that Saturday's events in Úzvölgy are under the jurisdiction of the Hargita County Police, and the police representatives are only there to ensure the work of the Police. In response to our question, the county police spokesperson said that the Calea Neamului gathering and the cemetery action should not be supervised by the police, but by the gendarmerie.
According to the gendarmerie, everything is fine
We also contacted the Hargita County Police. On the phone, Gendarmerie Captain Marian Stan, the board's press spokesperson, said that the Calea Neamului Association has a permit for its event in Úzvölgy. To our question, how is this possible, because Mihai Tîrnoveanu himself, the president of the association, stated that
they don't have a permit, because they didn't even ask for one, but then who gave them approval for Saturday's action in Úzvölgy, the spokesperson said, "he doesn't know". To our question whether the Hargita County Police authorized the movement of the Route of the Nation in Úzvölgy, they answered in the negative.
Marian Stan also said that according to the police, no illegal acts took place at the Úzvölgy cemetery. We reminded you that you can read the cemetery regulations posted on the cemetery gate, which are laid down in the Friday decision of the cemetery owner, the Csíkszentmárton municipality, which is based on a government decree passed by the parliament, and what happened in the cemetery on Saturday is completely contrary to this.
The gendarmerie spokesman only replied: in their view, no violations occurred at the Calea Neamului event. He also said this when we asked: is it legal for someone to enter a military cemetery without a permit (or it is not known with what permit), where they start digging and erect 150 crosses, so they are carrying out the transformation of the memorial site?
Political analyst Bogdan Duca apologized as a Romanian and a Christian for the Úzvölgy circus, reacting in a short Facebook post about the nationalist action organized in the military cemetery on Saturday.
"Romanian sovereignty is capable of this much... For those who do not know what it is about, in that cemetery - according to the records, only one Romanian soldier is buried, with the appropriate respect - the remains of the others were moved to the cemetery of Comănești heroes, so in this Austro-Hungarian, German (also killed in World War II) and Soviet soldiers are buried in the military cemetery. So this whole circus with the crosses placed in memory of the Romanians is a clowning act in folk garb, a clown show that we should be ashamed of, at least with respect to the memory of those who lost their lives in terrible and unjust wars" -
said Bogdan Duca.
Marian Stan emphasized that they are there to ensure "order" and the safety of the participants. According to him, this is fully fulfilled.
"If something illegal happens, we will investigate it afterwards and punish those responsible"
he declared.
We once again asked Maria Plumb, the spokesperson of the Hargita County Police, why the police do not intervene if it is obvious that someone or people are breaking the law in front of the police and gendarmerie, and we got the same answer: that is why the police are there in Úzvölgy at the cemetery to "provide support" to the gendarmes in the event of an incident.
The response of the police and the gendarmerie showed that they are not intervening against the conversion of the cemetery and the erection of the 150 crosses, because - although they are there in vain and could act on the spot against the commission of the violation - they will check afterwards whether the Action by an extremist organization called Nemzet Útja.
"The Úzvölgy cemetery was transformed into a construction site today," declared the council president, who informed them that they were still thinking about what to do with it.
He explained that in a state of law, the laws should be the way for all of us, the laws should be obeyed, and as Hungarians, we also recognize that we must use our rights.
"We have rights, we have rules, but if we don't use them in time, we will lose them"
Borboly explained. He added: "in this country, not only the Hungarians have laws, but also the Romanians". "Perhaps the most important law is respecting our ancestors.
What kind of example do those who are Druze bases, drill and carve, and vandalize the heroes' cemetery set for the children?"
- asked the chairman of the Hargita County Council, who confirmed Maszol's previous suggestion that the police and gendarmerie should have acted against the obvious violation of the law. "We received the answer that no atrocity took place, so only the municipality of Csíkszentmárton can take any action," said Borboly.
In another video, he logged in straight from the cemetery. In it he says:
"I am here in the Úzvölgy cemetery and I have come to show: we are not afraid and the law must be enforced! I invite everyone not to be afraid.
Today, my wife and I came out to pray together and to show that we are not afraid. I trust that there will be more and more people who are not afraid. This is what I am asking everyone to do," said Csaba Borboly.
