Because of the extremely high temperatures, pet owners are asked to pay extra attention to the protection of their pets and the animals living in their environment.

Péter Ovádi, the government commissioner responsible for the development and implementation of the animal protection action plan, drew attention to the fact that animal keepers have a special responsibility during the current heat alert. High temperatures can pose a risk to pets and wildlife alike. The role of livestock keepers is extremely important in taking preventive measures.

It is the responsibility of the animal keeper to provide the animals with a sufficient amount of fresh drinking water. It is essential to create a shaded and well-ventilated place for the animals, where they can protect themselves from the hot sun. This can be done even in the shade of trees or by using shading devices. It is worth avoiding walking during high temperatures, as this can even cause burns to the animal in addition to heat stroke. Moving early in the morning and late at night can also be a solution.

It is important to point out that it is forbidden to leave animals in a closed car, regardless of the duration. The internal temperature of vehicles can rise very quickly, which can seriously endanger the lives of animals. It is also worth paying attention to whether the animal may be taking any medication that causes photosensitivity.

The behavior of the animals should be monitored even during extreme weather, and if anyone notices any abnormal or worrying signs, they should contact a veterinarian immediately.

"The well-being of animals is our shared responsibility", therefore the government commissioner encourages all animal owners to take all necessary measures to protect the safety and health of animals even during the heat alarm.

"Our common cause is animal protection!" says the statement.
