Topics related to security policy, energy management and national politics will be emphasized in the ever-expanding program offer of the 32nd Bálványos Summer Free University and Student Camp (Tusványos), announced the Transylvanian organizers of the series of events to be held at the Tusnádfürdő in Székelyföld between July 18 and 23 at their press conference in Csikszereda on Tuesday.
The 32nd Tusványos is organized by the Transylvanian Hungarian Youth Council (MIT) and the Budapest-based Pro Minoritate Foundation, under the motto A béke dede The slogan refers to the war that has been going on for more than a year in the immediate vicinity of the Carpathian Basin, and to the society's desire for peace, but at the same time it also expresses the "feeling of life in Tusványos", because at the free university, which became famous for its debate culture, the actors representing opposing positions in timely public debates were always able to sit at the same table - explained Krisztina Sándor, the event's political program manager, executive president of the Transylvanian Hungarian National Council (EMNT).
"Peace is possible through negotiation, Tusványos is a good example of this"
stated the program manager.
Tusványos, which looks back on more than three decades of history, is built around the usual "corner points" again this year.
After the start of the concert program next Tuesday, the official opening of the public programs will be held on Wednesday morning by State Secretary for National Policy János Árpád Potápi, as well as the founders - Zsolt Németh, chairman of the Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and Tibor T. Toró, vice-chairman of the Transylvanian Hungarian Association (EMSZ) and Zsolt Butyka , with the participation of the host, the mayor of Tusnádfürdő.
This year, the national political round table to be held in the Csaba Lőrincz tent on Friday will be attended by leaders of Hungarian interest organizations and parties operating in the Carpathian Basin.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and László Tőkés, the president of the EMNT, will give a presentation A beke idede , at the traditional public forum - to be held on the Petőfi stage set up on the sports field.
Numerous representatives of the Hungarian government - several ministers, several state secretaries, ministerial commissioners, heads of institutions - and several former Romanian government officials take part in the podium discussions and thematic debates. With the cooperation of the Danube Institute, the Waclaw Felczak Foundation and the Mathias Corvinus Collegium, the names of more and more foreign experts are added to the list of speakers.
The Romanian participation will be "at a level similar to previous years": the organizers are used to the fact that Romanian politicians are reluctant to show up in Tusványos in the year before the elections, but the Transylvanianists, the supporters of the Hungarian-Romanian dialogue, will not be missing this year either - noted Krisztina Sándor.
Réka Horváth, the president of the Hungarian Youth Council, reported at the press conference in Csikszered that MIT has been "fused" with Tusványos for a decade and a half now, which was organized by the three member organizations - the Ferenc Dávid National Youth Association, the Transylvanian Youth Christian Association and the Udvarhelyi Youth Forum - around 300 volunteers work.
Ilona Popa, the main organizer of Tusványos in Transylvania, reported that this year the program of the camp was organized jointly with 69 partners, and there are more than five hundred programs to choose from at 30 event locations, with nearly a thousand speakers participating. The list of traditional national political and social tents - Csaba Lőrincz tent, Károly Kós tent, Miklós Bánffy lounge, Elemér Jakabffy tent - is being expanded this year with two more - the Pro Minoritate tent and the György Schöpflin tent. The former János Kriza folk music tent is moving to a new location, in a newly built barn. Traditional program locations dealing with the topics of economy, theater, sports, religious life, family, education and youth also await those interested.
There will be no printed program booklet this year either, information about the events can be found on the Tusványos website and mobile application - now in both Romanian and English. The events taking place in the Csaba Lőrincz tent are broadcast live on the website and social media.
On the Petőfi stage, the concert program begins on Tuesday evening with the performances of Maszkura and the Crickets and Magna Cum Laude. During the week, Pál Utcai Fiúk, Quimby, Anima Sound System, Vad Fruttik, Péterffy Bori and the Love Band, Republic and Ismerős Arcok will also perform.
