In honor of the Szerencsi Chocolate Factory celebrating its 100th anniversary, Magyar Posta issued an occasional stamp series. At the Szerencsi event organized to present the stamps, the parliamentary state secretary of the Ministry of Energy emphasized that Szerencsi Chocolate is an important and identity-defining product for the entire nation.
Zsófia Koncz said that for Hungarian families, Szerencs chocolate carries a very important message for several generations, and also plays an important role in the life of the city. He added that thanks to the government support, instead of three locations, production can now take place in one plant.
The politician stated that for the Hungarian government, domestic businesses are extremely important. The Ministry of Energy worked to help in the energy crisis caused by the war, he pointed out, adding that since May 1st, the prices of natural gas and electricity have been more than halved for about 30,000 customers (two-thirds of which were small and medium-sized enterprises). After that, the electricity prices of 180,000 micro-enterprises were halved, and electricity price ceilings were also introduced in some sectors from July 1, said Zsófia Koncz.
According to the state secretary, the centenary will be celebrated in several stages in the city: an exhibition showing the hundred years of chocolate has opened in Szerencs Castle, preparations are underway for the publication of a book on the history of the sweet, and the Arthur Days Festival will be held between August 25 and 27.
In honor of the anniversary, one of the factory's iconic sweets, the cat's tongue, also appears on the stamp. He added that the self-adhesive stamp in the shape of a cat's tongue was issued in thirty-six stamp-like sheets, mixed with milk and dark chocolate colors.
Sára Hegmanné Nemes, the vice president of the board of Magyar Posta Zrt., specified that 36,000 commemorative commemorative stamps will be issued, and 6,000 copies of chocolate-scented stamps have also been produced. A stamp costs HUF three hundred and can be used on both postcards and envelopes, added Sára Hegmanné Nemes.
István Takács, the managing director of Szerencsi Bonbon Kft., emphasized that the products of the chocolate factory established in 1923 were already sold in the United States after two years of operation. He added that, in addition to the production of traditional products, they are now also engaged in the production of diabetic and sugar-free sweets, as well as bark cast figurines.
The managing director said that the company's task from the beginning was to save the recipes of Szerencs sweets for posterity, and he called the centenary and the issued stamps a milestone in the factory's life.
At the end of the event, the commemorative envelopes with the first commemorative stamp were sealed and signed by Zsófia Koncz, István Takács, Sára Hegmanné Nemes and Tibor Nyiri, mayor of Szerencs.
