The biggest tradition-preserving holiday of Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin will be held in Bugac for the seventh time this year.
The Day of the Ancestors, which is a sister event of the Kurultaj, welcomes those interested with nomadic processions, combat demonstrations, equestrian competitions and contests, archery programs, traditional sports competitions, professional exhibitions presenting the Hungarian-Hun-Avar heritage, as well as folk music and Hungarian táltos-music programs.
In 2011, the Magyar-Turán Non-profit Foundation launched the Ancestors' Day tradition-preserving celebration, the purpose of which is to commemorate the Hungarians' greatest ancestors.
In the framework of the event, more than fifty musical and tradition-preserving, as well as scientific and educational programs are organized. The celebration, which takes place in a large area, is family-friendly, and children can also choose from countless programs.
The basic atmosphere of the event is provided by the special location: for three days, Bugac in the Bács-Kiskun County turns into a huge nomadic camp of more than a hundred yurts, evoking the atmosphere of the time of the conquest.
The programs prepared by specialists in anthropology, archeology, ethnography and history, and implemented by the tradition preservation teams, present the earliest peculiarities and customs of Hungarian history to those interested in an exciting and spectacular way.
One of the central elements of this year's one of the biggest joint celebrations of the unity and kinship of nations with a nomadic equestrian past is the presentation of the eastern equestrian fighting style and equestrian traditions, as well as the revival and familiarization of the ancient Hungarian sports with nomadic roots brought with us from the eastern steppes.
In the spirit of this, traditional army reviews, battle demonstrations, nomadic processions, equestrian competitions and contests, as well as traditional sports contests, add color to the event, on the site of which a huge nomadic lodge and a military camp will be built.
Zsolt András Bíró, the main organizer of the Day of Ancestors and the founder-chairman of the Magyar-Turán Foundation, emphasized: the event provides an opportunity to remember our greatest real ancestors and their history-shaping role together, with dignity, and to celebrate our centuries-old customs and traditions together.
