In September, the Hungarian flag can also be raised on the Monte Grappa mountain in Italy, at the Sacrario Militare di Cima Grappa World War I memorial site, announced the Directorate of Military Care and Hero Cult of the HM Military History Institute and Museum on its Facebook page .
They wrote that the working group of the Military History Institute and Museum of the Ministry of Defense negotiated with its partner organization in Italy, the Ministero della Difesa Ufficio per la tutela della cultura e della memoria della difesa (Military Memory Cultural Protection Office of the Italian Ministry of Defense).
During the meeting, the details of the inauguration ceremony of the Hungarian flag planned at the Sacrario Militare di Cima Grappa memorial site were discussed. The flag-raising ceremony is expected to be held in September.
Added:
the idea of placing the Hungarian flag at the Monte Grappa memorial was raised in 2011,
then in 2016, they initiated the addition of the official flag of the Republic of Austria to the flag of Hungary. The Hungarian motion was accepted by the Italian side in 2019.
It was recalled: Monte Grappa, inaugurated in 1935 and classified as a special status memorial site (sacra zone), is an emblematic location connected to the Italian battlefield of the First World War, the Piave Front, where
more than 12 thousand Italian and more than 10 thousand Austro-Hungarian soldiers are resting.
Monte Grappa is of particular importance in the Italian military memorial, as shown by the monumental construction of the memorial site and the fact that the mountain is also mentioned separately in the room of battles in the Palazzo Venezia National Museum in Rome, they wrote.
