This year, a total of ten Hungarian universities made it to the Shaghai Ranking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (ITM) told MTI on Saturday.

More resources, better infrastructure and higher requirements lead to quality higher education. The improvement in the rankings is an important result primarily because it confirms that Hungarian young people can receive an increasingly competitive, modern education at Hungarian universities - stressed László Palkovics , head of the ministry, according to the announcement. As written, the government is working to make the entire system of higher education, all of its actors, interested in the most successful, domestically and internationally acclaimed operation possible. The tangible results of the consistent development policy can already be seen in the fact that ten Hungarian universities have been included in the GRAS specialty ranking, which examines nearly two thousand institutions from 93 countries.

Just like last year, Eötvös Loránd University was ranked among the best in the world in six fields of study, with physics training receiving the most outstanding evaluation. Semmelweis University achieved an excellent position in the ranking partly for its dental training and partly for its achievements in clinical medicine. The ranking of the University of Pécs and Szeged is similarly high. The ranking also includes the University of Veterinary Medicine and the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in the field of mechanical engineering. Corvinus University improved 100 places to 301-400. in economics.

The renewal of higher education continued with the change of university model. This September, nearly 70 percent of the students, more than 180,000 young people, will begin their higher education in more flexible settings, in institutions maintained by the foundation. By increasing the educational standard of universities and building a quality training infrastructure, Hungary can become a regional knowledge center, the announcement reads.
