Hungarians defend a decentralized Europe of self-governing, free nations.
Gerhard Papke, former provincial representative of the German Free Democratic Party (FDP), told the Hungary Today news portal about the pressure exerted on German industry. According to the president of the German-Hungarian Society, Hungary is viewed with longing in his country, as it is a world that has already been lost in Western Europe.
Papke explained that the Germans have been trying to portray their nation in a negative way for years, but hateful nationalism and cosmopolitan national consciousness are completely different things! Left-wing parties in Germany deliberately blur this distinction, accusing anyone who takes on their country of right-wing radicalism. This also explains the fear of Viktor Orbán in Berlin and Brussels, said the former FDP politician.
Gerhard Papke added that the Hungarians defend the decentralized Europe of self-governing, free nations. They don't want a superstate telling them how to raise their children.
All of this poses a challenge to the demand for power of the ideologues who want to force Europe into their own direction in Brussels.
It is outrageous that some German politicians, such as Katarina Barley, warn against investments in Hungary, said Papke. German companies have positive experiences in Hungary, and this close economic cooperation is a stable basis for German-Hungarian friendship. People from the two countries work together every day and learn to respect each other. This makes them resistant to hate slogans, Gerhard Papke believed.
