You can hear more and more that Mayor Gergely Karácsony will not be without an opponent before the municipal election.
Earlier, it was suggested that the DK would run the current deputy mayor, Anett Bősz, against Karácsonny. Most recently, his other deputy, Kata Tüttő, lashed out at the mayor for raising BKK ticket prices. According to some opinions, this is no accident, since left-wing intellectual circles wanted to replace Gergely Karácsony in the position of candidate for mayor.
It seems that the confrontation between the mayor and his deputy is increasing. Most recently, Kata Karácsony Gergely Tüttő went to him regarding the price increase of BKK tickets.
- Look, I think you should ask the mayor about this because I didn't agree with it. I don't think the ticket prices should have been raised - the deputy mayor told Hír TV. According to Gergely Karácsony's announcement last week, tickets will become more expensive by almost thirty percent starting in September, but according to Kata Tüttő, they will not touch the price of season tickets for the time being. By the way, the mayor said in June of last year: "We will not increase the price of line tickets and passes, because there is no price increase that would solve the financing problems of Budapest's public transport".
In light of this, the assumption published in the press that certain left-wing opposition circles wanted to replace Gergely Karácsony with Kata Tüttő is interesting. A couple of weeks ago, Átlátszó.hu at least wrote about opposition infighting. The portal claimed no less than that there had been attempts to assassinate Gergely Karácsony in left-wing intellectual circles.
The exact date of the "conspiracy" is not known, but according to the article, the coup attempt may have taken place around May of last year. According to the left-wing news portal, Momentum and DK wanted to divide the capital between themselves, according to the deal, Momentum could have put forward a candidate for mayor.
At the same time, left-wing intellectuals worked on the coup of Gergely Karácsony. This happened roughly at the same time as the political scientist László Lengyel also started organizing to replace Karácsony, but Deputy Mayor Kata Tüttő, who looked like a candidate, turned down the request.
Asked about the coup attempt, Kata Tüttő dismissed what was written in the article of the left-wing portal, which claims to be a fact finder: "I am hearing about this for the first time now, I had a good laugh about it".
Magyar Nemzet asked political scientist László Lengyel whether there really was such a coup attempt. If there was such a group of intellectuals, what did they discuss and did they talk to Kata Tüttő. So far, however, they have not received a response from the left-wing political scientist, nor have the relevant opposition parties responded. In other words, for the time being, no one wanted to confirm or deny this information except for Kata Tüttő.
It was not the first time that it appeared in the press that there could be another opposition candidate for the position of mayor alongside or instead of Karácsony, at least in the background they could also blackmail the current leader of Budapest. - Anett Bősz will definitely be the candidate for mayor of DK, if the party finally decides not to stand behind Gergely Karácsony in the municipal elections - our newspaper's sources with insight into the left's internal affairs said in unison back in the spring.
According to them, Karácsony has until autumn to meet the expectations of Ferenc Gyurcsány and "fight" with the government, as well as to increase his personal support.
In the DK, they will decide in the fall whether they will stand behind Gergely Karácsony, who has thus far had time to meet Ferenc Gyurcsány's expectations in exchange for his support, and to increase his own personal popularity.
As is known, Ferenc Gyurcsány, the president of the DK, spoke in an interview with Spirit FM last fall: it is not a default to support Gergely Karácsony. On the other hand, Gergely Karácsony told Telex that he is one hundred percent sure that he will run again in the 2024 municipal election.
