In Fukuoka, the Hungarian national anthem was played in honor of Hubert Kós, the new world champion of the men's 200-meter backstroke.

Hubert Kós won a gold medal with a national record on Friday in the 200-meter backstroke on the sixth day of the pool swimming competitions of the Fukuoka Aquatic World Championships.

The 20-year-old Hungarian competitor crossed the finish line with a national record of 1:54.14 minutes, leaving Péter Bernek's 2017 record of 1:55.58 in the past. The other Hungarian finalist in the event, Benedek Kovács, finished fifth with a personal best of 1:55.85.

Kós, who won the first world championship title of his career, won the Hungarian delegation's first medal during the pool swimming competitions.
