Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Radio Kossuth Good morning, Hungary! In his program, he responded to the criticism of his speech in Tusnádfürdő and stated that the large food chains and supermarkets behave like price speculators. According to the prime minister, Brussels should give the EU funds to Hungary and it is questionable how long the EU will continue to finance Ukraine.

Tusnádfürdő is an iconic place for the national side, a free university, where rather a lecture or a common thinking takes place, so the reactions are usually more exciting than what is said - Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told Kossuth Rádió Good morning, Hungary! in his show.

There are great opportunities for cooperation with Romania and Slovakia

According to the prime minister, the liberals have become provincial, they do not accept new things, they always recite the old mantra, and this also answers the question of why the domestic political competition is not sharper.

Regarding the reactions to the speech in Tusnádfürdő

Viktor Orbán said that he had met with the Romanian Prime Minister and that he would like them to work well together.

Slovakia is a more difficult case, as there will be an election there in the fall, he said. We will not be able to agree on the issue of successor states or parts of the country that have been torn off, so perhaps it would be better to leave it to historians. If we let this matter into the center of Slovak-Hungarian relations, we will make a mistake, he added.

"I see great opportunities in the cooperation with the Slovaks, if a stable situation is established there, we could do many nice things together in the coming years"

said the prime minister.

According to Viktor Orbán, the Czechs are arguing with each other, they are in the position of federalism, which is opposed to the Hungarian and Polish concept of sovereignty. This debate will come to a standstill in the coming years, as the fate of the European Union will also be decided.

We encountered two different meteors. Many people died from the coronavirus, it was a very painful year and a half, which brought economic problems and temporary closure of workplaces. War, on the other hand, does not threaten jobs.

There was full employment in Hungary before the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and the war could not even deviate from this

Viktor Orbán said.

Multis raise prices as price speculators

He added that the war is stressing Hungarians with inflation, and the government can counter this by maintaining the reduction in utilities to relieve the burden on Hungarian families.

"Hungarian families pay the smallest utilities in Europe"

he emphasized.

According to the Prime Minister, the most important thing now is to break inflation, through price caps, an online price monitoring system and other measures.

While the whole country is fighting against inflation, unfortunately there are those who do not take advantage of it and even take advantage of the situation. Seizing the opportunity given by high energy prices, large food chains raise prices, even for imported products. The authorities have already imposed a HUF three billion fine for this. The Hungarian government is trying to suppress this, but the price speculators go to Brussels to complain, he said.

He explained: Brussels is "trying to divert us from the path of protecting people", and the price speculators are colluding with the Brussels bureaucrats.

This is outrageous, wrong, and needs to be addressed.

We cannot accept unjustified price speculation regarding food

stated the prime minister.

This war is no longer the war of Ukrainians

If there is a war, it always makes sense to talk about peace, Viktor Orbán declared, adding that "if we don't talk about it, there will be no peace". The prime minister highlighted

there is no battlefield solution to the current situation, results can only be achieved through diplomacy and negotiations.

According to the Prime Minister, this war is no longer the war of the Ukrainians, and Ukraine's sovereignty has practically ceased as the country has no independent income and cannot cover its expenses. The war is an incredible economic burden, and the Ukrainians have run out of strength, the West is keeping them alive, he added.

Viktor Orbán explained that the question is what the American president will decide in the shadow of next year's presidential election: will he agree that his country will continue to be engaged in a proxy war, or will he turn to the elections with a ceasefire and peace.

How long can Europe finance Ukraine?

An even more serious question, he noted, is how long Europe can last, since the USA "can produce a lot of money", since the dollar is considered world money, but the euro is not suitable for this.

The EU can take from the member states, but we don't know how long we can take it

- highlighted the prime minister.

He emphasized: the European Commission recently announced that it needs another 100 billion euros from the member states, while it cannot fulfill its obligations towards them.

In his opinion, the EU owes Hungary, since we settled our current payments, but they do not give us what is due from Brussels, "they owe a lot of money".

How long can Europe finance Ukraine? Can Europe bear this burden if it remains alone?

Viktor Orbán also mentioned that

the European Union and the member states are also at the limit of their carrying capacity. Therefore, if it were to happen that Europe would be left alone in terms of support for Ukraine, the Union would also become pro-peace.

Viktor Orbán also said that he considers it impossible that while public opinion is increasingly questioning the justification of financing the war, it is increasingly bound by its own internal problems, it sees less and less how this war will become a victory, and less and less sees what the point is to finance the war instead of a peaceful negotiation.

And while public opinion is moving in this direction, the politicians in Brussels stick to their previous position, that is, they go in the opposite direction.

And in a democracy, the will of the people and the movements of our country's leaders cannot oppose each other in such a sharp, long-term way.

added the prime minister.

So the democratically elected leaders did not have much time left to take into account and adapt to the changed public opinion.

We don't want migrant quotas or migrant ghettos

There is, to put it mildly, an "unexpected" coincidence in time: Italy was opposed to mandatory quotas and the creation of migrant ghettos for a long time, and then changed its position. After that, within a few weeks, he received 19 billion euros from the EU fund, which we do not receive from, Viktor Orbán pointed out.

"If you let migrants in, people come in who you don't know anything about, you didn't choose them, but the people smugglers pushed them on you," he emphasized. Different culture, different behavior. Suddenly there will be more and more of them, and you will feel more and more like a native in your own country, even though you didn't decide that. This can destroy a country, he added.

We Hungarians consider the risk to be so high that we do not want to participate in such an experiment.

We don't want migrant ghettos, and if we don't want them, there won't be any in Hungary

- declared the prime minister.
