The European Union's argument regarding the peace in Ukraine is false and self-defeating, according to the fact that the conditions are not suitable for settlement negotiations, while Hungary, on the other hand, continues to urge a ceasefire and peace negotiations as soon as possible, according to the Ministry's information, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stated on Saturday at the MCC Fest in Esztergom.
During the panel discussion on the challenges of Hungarian foreign policy and foreign trade, the head of the ministry emphasized that since the start of the invasion of Ukraine more than five hundred days ago, Europe has sunk into a war psychosis, and the common foreign policy has narrowed down to this one topic.
"For more than five hundred days we have only been talking about the war. After all, we know exactly who thinks what about the war. Practically everyone thinks the same thing. This war is bad, brutal, people die in the war, they practically destroy a country, the war must be stopped, it must be condemned, and it must be clearly stated who is the aggressor and who is the victim," he said.
"Despite what some people try to say, there is no dispute about this. But for five hundred days we have only been talking about this (.) And when we bring up to talk about peace, then it comes out that you are a Putinist, you are a Kremlin propagandist, a friend of the Russians, a spy, etc.
he listed. "Even though I think that it would be in the interest of Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, Europe, and even the whole world to finally have peace," he added.
He then called it hypocritical that the EU immediately calls for a cease-fire and peace negotiations in connection with armed conflicts raging elsewhere in the world, but this is not happening in the case of Ukraine, which is an unacceptable and harmful duality.
He recalled that the counter-argument is always that the conditions are not suitable even for this, while in his words it should be seen that "tomorrow the conditions will be worse than today, and yesterday the conditions were better than today, because yesterday even fewer people died , like today, and tomorrow the number of dead will be even more".
"So the argument we hear from European Union colleagues against peace is false, unacceptable and self-defeating"
he thought. "Even though they attack us for this, today in Europe we stand alone in favor of the need for peace," he added.
Péter Szijjártó described as shocking the EU's proposal, based on which they could support arms shipments to Ukraine with up to twenty billion euros over the next four years, which means that the community thinks that there will definitely be another four years of war.
He pointed out: it is also problematic that Hungary would have to contribute 200 million euros to this without our country receiving the EU funds due to it, and that the OTP is on Ukraine's list of international sponsors of the war.
In relation to the sanctions, he stated that the imposed restrictions failed, as they did not bring Russia to its knees and did not bring them closer to peace, as opposed to their original goal, and therefore, in his opinion, the political consequences should be removed. He also explained that although the mainstream wants to believe that the world is equal to the transatlantic region, in fact the global majority is on the side of peace, because the price of war is paid by everyone worldwide.
Speaking about the freezing of EU funds, the minister said that certain laws are not behind it, the real reason is that Brussels has made it its mission to overthrow the Christian-democratic and patriotic Hungarian government.
"We are uncomfortable for them because we pursue a policy that is directly opposite to what they think is the only correct, existing, acceptable, and tolerable political direction, and if all this were not enough, we are also successful"
he said.
"And it's rough because they point to the lack of democracy as the reason for all the proceedings against us, while they are the ones who trample on democracy because they refuse to accept the democratic will of the Hungarian people," he declared.
"The greatest shame of democracy today is Brussels and the European bureaucracy"
he announced.
Péter Szijjártó called it a huge thing that some European politicians deal with Hungary 24 hours a day as a country of barely ten million people.
"I feel so sorry for these people, I simply see in them that this is an incurable hungarophobia that they suffer from"
- He told.
In response to a question about the criticisms of the American ambassador, David Pressman, he reported on his expectations of the Hungarian ambassadors. Among other things, he called it forbidden to "interfere" in the internal politics of the host state, to comment on politicians' expressions, and to participate in various parades and demonstrations.
"If an ambassador of mine in the other country were to constantly meddle in domestic political matters, I would immediately call him home, because that is not his job and it is disrespectful to the other country," he pointed out.
