The former Austrian chancellor said that time has justified the Hungarian position also in relation to the migration crisis.
Yes, I am afraid that their prime minister is right - said former Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz in an interview with Kossuth radio regarding the fact that in his speech in Tusvány this year, Viktor Orbán spoke about the fact that two great powers can rule in the future, and that the USA and China should to accept that there are two days in the sky.
Kurz was also a speaker at this year's MCC Festival in Esztergom, where a lot of people were interested in him, and he made a statement to the state radio after his performance there. As the former politician indicated, the deepening gap between China and the USA, the war in Ukraine, certainly divides the world in which we live. Kurz believes that in this situation, Europe has to find its own way to manage the current situation wisely.
The most important thing is to be economically strong, to maintain our competitiveness, because this is the basis of prosperity and strength in Europe. America follows the strategy of separation, and the Democrats and Republicans agree on this, that is, the separation of the USA and China, and I hope that Europe will find a smart independent position here, since China is one of our most important economic partners. If economic relations become more limited, trade will decrease, and that will automatically lead to a decrease in prosperity, the former Austrian chancellor stated.
In relation to migration, Sebastian Kurz indicated that already in 2015, at the beginning of the migration crisis, he clearly took the position that the unlimited acceptance of refugees cannot work.
At that time, I collaborated very closely with Péter Szijjártó, but I received serious criticism, I was labeled as a racist and extreme right-winger. Time has proven us, that is, we were right, and other people's opinions on the matter have also changed
he underlined.
According to Kurz, more and more European politicians understand that unlimited migration does not work, that the states themselves must decide who to admit, and not the people smugglers. As he said, there is still a lot to be done, unfortunately, because the external borders are still not protected enough in many places, there is still too much illegal migration, and there is still no really well-functioning system overall in Europe.
Speaking about the 2024 European Parliament elections, Kurz called it very important for the civil side to strengthen against a certain left-wing tendency, which is certainly not good for the development of Europe. Regarding the future of the region, his impression is that there is basically good cooperation between Austria and Hungary, the foundations are good, there are many economic relations, and traditionally good human relations, and this is also encouraging for the future.
