31st edition of the European Minorities Folklore Festival and Folk Art Fair For the Csangó festival in Jászberény from August 8-13, 2023.

The main organizer of the event, the Folkloric Cultural Foundation and the Jászság Népi Együttes, are organizing the Aprók Dance Camp and the International Dance and Music Camp from August 6.

A folk art fair with 60 folk artists and craftsmen is connected to the 60 programs with 600 participants over 6 days - so that we don't deviate from the magic number here.

The event, which is unique in Hungary, presents the folk art of Hungarians across the border in order to strengthen the sense of identity of minorities and nationalities. In addition to the Moldavian and Gyimes csangós, who are at the center of the festival, traditionalists from Transylvania, Highlands and Voivodeship will perform, but there will also be representatives of minority dance groups and musicians living in Hungary.

Among the dance ensembles we can see the Ilosvai Péter Selymes Folk Dance Ensemble and the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, among the bands the Cimbaliband and György Ferenczi with the 1st Pesti Rackaks will perform - to name just a few.

The organizers write this about the purpose of the festival:

"The Moldavian Csángos, who live on the easternmost edge of the Hungarian linguistic border, fight resolutely for their survival in a suffocating atmosphere, in the absence of Hungarian schools and Hungarian priests. Due to forced ethnic mixing, tens of thousands of Hungarians grow up feeling ashamed of being a minority, and therefore deny their mother tongue, culture, and identity. The conscience and well-being of future generations also depends on us. We are convinced that we are taking an important step in this direction, when we try to introduce the various groups of Csangós and their artistic values to Hungarians in our country."
