We Hungarians cannot and do not want to look at ourselves through someone else's lens, said Péter Szijjártó at the 2023 Tranzit political festival.
The nature of Hungarian politics must be preserved
In his speech at the 2023 Tranzit political festival, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó pointed out: Although there is a strong uncertainty in international politics these days, Hungary's foreign policy has a wide range of maneuvers, because it also depends on what we want, what we want. He emphasized: this scope is basically determined by two factors, one is geography, and the other, which is even more important, is the goal of our country and whether the government is able to look at it exclusively from its own point of view.
The waves in international politics are even bigger than they were a year ago, so now it is especially important to emphasize that the goal of Hungarian foreign policy cannot be other than the enforcement of Hungarian interests. And we must not allow Hungarian politics to limit this nature.
he said. "We Hungarians cannot and do not want to look at ourselves through someone else's lens," he added. – Hungarian foreign policy should not aim at the ambition of recognizing others. Our goal is for the Hungarian people to be satisfied with Hungarian foreign policy, and that this Hungarian foreign policy serves Hungarian interests," explained the head of the ministry.
In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade also touched on the fact that no country in Europe has the same legitimacy as Hungary's foreign policy.
He recalled: the Hungarian people took a position of peace in the face of war. He reminded that last year the elections took place in the changed world political environment, and the people clearly decided to guarantee security, in addition to national interests.
As he put it: Hungary's has the most legitimate and most sovereign foreign policy in Europe, which exclusively prioritizes Hungarian interests.
The most powerful countries are forced to comply
- Even the biggest and strongest European countries appear under pressure to comply in individual EU negotiations, because they do not have as much legitimacy as our country - said Péter Szijjártó. The politician recalled the advice he received from Prime Minister Viktor Orbán when he became head of the ministry. The prime minister asked: "Péter, do Hungarian foreign policy." "That was the way to go," explained the politician. - Therefore, Hungarian foreign policy is Hungarian, and Hungarian foreign policy is sovereign. And we have to keep it that way, he underlined.
Speaking about the state of international politics, Péter Szijjártó said: a new world order is in the making.
A period of jostling, positioning, and restlessness can be felt in foreign policy
he declared.
Speaking about the Czech, Slovak, Polish and American elections, Péter Szijjártó pointed out that Hungary is criticized in connection with democracy from those countries belonging to the liberal mainstream, unlike Hungary (the only) country where the international liberal mainstream's attempt to intervene failed in the in an election.
The EU's sanctions policy is already being laughed at everywhere
– The European Union has already messed up the handling of the war conflict by starting an arms transport competition with the United States, which it cannot keep up with militarily. In addition, the EU imposed a policy of sanctions that proved fatal for the European economy, while the United States passed a law that not only reduced American inflation, but also gave American companies an advantage over Europeans. Therefore, for this reason alone, an immediate ceasefire and peace negotiations are necessary - the head of the ministry pointed out in connection with the war in Ukraine.
The EU adopted 11 sanctions packages, but the Russian economy still hasn't collapsed and the war is not over. That is why the European sanctions policy is laughed at everywhere
the politician pointed out. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade also touched on the fact that it seems to partners outside of Europe that: when there is a war outside Europe, Europe always urges negotiations, whereas now, when there is a war inside Europe, it urges arms shipments and there are no negotiations.
Eastern and Western companies meet in our country
The minister pointed out that Hungarian foreign policy can be said to be successful for two reasons. - One of the reasons is that we were able to successfully stay out of the war going on in our neighborhood for 1.5 years, and Hungary did not do anything that would have caused the escalation of the war or even the death of more people. And the only morally defensible position - underlined the minister.
- For the past 13 years, we have pursued a foreign policy that has made us the number one destination for investments in the East. In our country, the electric car produced by Western companies meets the battery produced by Eastern companies. This ensures the possibility of economic growth for our country in the future, Péter Szijjártó pointed out based on Mandiner's coverage.
