Folly Arborétum és Borászat from Badacsonyörs won two gold medals at Europe's most prestigious international wine competition. At the Berliner Wein Trophy in the summer of 2023, the 400-member professional jury chose Kéknyelű and Cédrus Cuvée, named after the dominant plant of the arboretum and made from a blend of Italian Riesling and gray berry, among the best.

Leopold Nagy, the winemaker at the Folly Arborétum, informed our newspaper about this. As we learned, they have already received serious recognition at the Berliner Wein Trophy on several occasions, and their Rhine Riesling won a gold medal in 2021 and 2023. Every year at Europe's largest international wine competition, the best ones are selected from more than 14,000 items by a professional jury of four hundred members, which in the summer round of the competition in August ranked two new Folly wines among the best.

The 2022 Kéknyelű and the 2022 Cédrus Cuvée were recognized with gold medals.

On 10 hectares of estates close to the Folly Arboretum in Badacsonyörs, grape production and winemaking - just like the love and care of the arboretum - is a legacy passed down from generation to generation in the Folly family. The Kisörsi mountain provides suitable growing areas for the leading grape varieties, i.e. Grüberát, Ottonel Muscat, Blue Neck, Rhine Riesling, Buda Green and Italian Riesling. Most of the wines are made using a reductive process, but some batches are also aged in barrels.

The weather of last year's drought was favorable to the blue-stemmed grapes, with good ripening indicators, all the crops were ripe, and we were able to harvest beautiful, healthy bunches of grapes. Already during processing, we felt that the production of an unusual vintage had begun

- said Leopold Nagy, Folly's winemaker, about Kéknyelű, which was awarded the gold medal. He also said that the Cédrus Cuvée, which also won a gold medal, was made by combining Italian Riesling harvested from the best-situated growing areas and gray friend. The drought year made it possible to leave the clusters on the capital longer than usual.
