Kristóf Milák, Olympic, world and European champion, world record holder swimmer, has announced his "return". The self-proclaimed swimming genius announced in mid-June that he would not compete in the Fukuoka World Championships.

I returned. I needed the break because I feel that now I am ready to continue again, with the same or even stronger will than at any time before. Once again, I feel the hunger to show the dimensions of swimming that I haven't seen before. I started training again with redoubled ambition, programmed myself, I know that the first weeks and months will hurt, but I chose this path and I will follow it - until Paris, and then even further

- the Hungarian association's statement on Monday quoted the 23-year-old world class player, who has already completed his first training session at the Duna Arena.

In mid-June, Milák announced that he would not compete in the World Championships in Fukuoka. He said then that he was neither physically nor mentally in a condition to be among the best in the world. Later, he talked about how he needed to recharge and feels that he has three, four or five Olympic titles in his mind in total during his career.

Milák broke into the adult field with the silver medal he won in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, but his main event was the 200-meter butterfly, in which he has been virtually dominant since 2018. As the first highlight of his career, he won a gold medal at the Gwangju World Championships in 2019, breaking the ten-year world record of the legendary Michael Phelps, and in 2021 he easily won at the Tokyo Olympics, while he came second with a European record in the 100-meter butterfly. And last year, at the World Championships organized in Hungary in the Duna Arena, she further improved her world record (1:50.34 minutes), and at this competition she also won the world championship title in the 100-meter butterfly.
