War propaganda is rampant in Ukraine. Mediums with different opinions were banned with the stroke of a pen.
However, those who have their own thoughts about the present, reminiscent of the Soviet times, only dare to share it through alternative channels, otherwise they are afraid of being carried away by "the black Volga". Despite this, there are more and more people who are fed up with the war and are holding Zelenskyi and his team accountable for the current situation.
One often has the feeling that the Ukrainian government had been preparing for this war years ago. When Volodymyr Zelenskyi won the presidential elections in 2019 with a 73 percent majority, everyone thought that he would get what he promised in the campaign from the media personality or, as they call it in Ukraine, the "clown" turned politician.
Instead, the young leader first shut down the opposition television channels and websites, which were all pro-peace, and then banned the opposition parties connected to them.
Therefore, the preliminary expectation that Zelensky undertook, i.e. the end of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the elimination of corruption, the suppression of free language and chauvinism, did not occur. In fact! In a memorable recording, made in Ungvár in 2019 after Zelenskiy's victory, the sleepy-eyed young head of state explained that:
They predicted that the dollar would be 45 hryvnia under Zelensky, there would be chaos, there would be war in the country. Somehow, look, nothing happened!
- said the Ukrainian president at the time, whose words are still fondly quoted by Ukrainians who are not very enthusiastic these days, since this prediction finally came true.
They are tired: the potty is starting to overflow with the Ukrainians
When the war broke out in Ukraine, the so-called unified television program stream was introduced almost immediately, which means that the leading television stations produce a joint broadcast, which expresses the unity of the nation even in times of war. This marathon program is also picked up and broadcast by small rural television stations, and the president's office is known to be responsible for the content. In this world, you hardly have a chance to kick anyone with a different opinion.
Only war propaganda, victory and the glorious future that follows have a place on the screen.
György Tóth Jr.: The Ukrainian refugee should go back and die, everyone else can stay
The president's advisers, military leaders and spokesmen, pro-war opinion leaders, and those former oppositionists who are known to be happy to change their opinions, as long as they are properly paid, are connected every day. (This means tens of thousands of dollars per person.) However, people's eyes are starting to open, and fewer and fewer people tune in to the state propaganda station, instead they use Telegram, where they can get information from other sources.
Here, reality also appears on the surfaces.
Videos about the horrible war, the cruel and extremely violent mobilization, the dead bodies in the mountains, the disgruntled and undersupplied, hungry and exhausted soldiers, the bureaucrats involved in the theft of Western humanitarian aid, and the list goes on. It is endless.
In one of the videos published on Telegram , for example, we can see how military personnel break all laws and mobilize a man in his own bedroom. They refuse to leave the apartment despite being told to do so.
In another , a Ukrainian soldier who lost his limbs is taken to the hospital by his comrades after his legs were torn off by a mine. Such and similar recordings are not shown on central television. We also only recommend this to the nervous.
Even the Ukrainian authorities cannot do anything with alternative Telegram channels, as they are unable to block them without detaining their operators. Most of them operate from abroad for this very reason. News about the demonstrations held by mothers and wives in the centers of Kyiv and other major Ukrainian cities whose children and husbands have disappeared in the war also appears here.
At one of these demonstrations, which took place next to Maidan, which became famous in the 2014 revolution, in the neighborhood of the presidential office, women shouted over loudspeakers that four years ago they did everything to ensure that Zelensky won and set the country's politics in the right direction, now and they stand in despair because no one hears their words. They add that their children went to fight voluntarily and not through forced conscription to defend their country, but the state does not take care of anything.
He has no weapons, no ammunition, no clothes, the soldiers, parents and family members have to buy everything from their own 2,800 hryvnia (30,000 HUF) pensions to protect Zelensky's butt
- add the protesters, who are also waiting for an answer as to why the soldiers injured on the front are not brought home, why the missing are not searched for, and why the captives are not brought home?
There are such demonstrations all over the country. Sometimes they take place spontaneously and sometimes organized. However, citing military secrets, the mothers do not receive an answer anywhere.
400 thousand heroes no longer answer the call
In Ukraine, the number of victims is officially classified as a war secret. According to some assumptions and the lesson of the new cemetery videos that appear every day, the number of Ukrainian victims has already exceeded 300,000.
One of the most egregious scams in recent days was when Kyivstar, a telecommunications company, published an advertisement with the following sentences, while showing a transparent image of soldiers:
400 thousand heroes never answer calls anymore. Send the word thank you to the phone number of a hero who has left for eternity.
The ad was removed from the web a few minutes later.
