In the Castle, in front of the Sándor Palace, the Hungarian Sports Federation (MVSZ) held its central event on World Fencing Day: a flashmob took place on Szent György Square with the participation of hundreds of fencers, and on this occasion they greeted the women's dagger podium finishers of the World Championship 60 years ago.

The hunfencing.hu report reminds us that in 1963, at the World Championships in Gdańsk, something happened that had never happened before or since:

In the women's fencers' individual competition, three Hungarians were able to stand on the podium: Ildikó Rejtő won the gold medal, Lídia Dömölky won the silver medal, and Katalin Juhász won the bronze medal.

The classic fencers accepted the invitation, so Zsolt Csampa, the president of the association, and Attila Prosits, board member, could greet all three of them on Saturday. The small ceremony took place in the company of hundreds of athletes dressed in fencing clothes, as well as adult and age group world and European champions, who then sang the Hungarian national anthem in honor of the former greats.

The park of Szent György tér was filled with athletes and tourists took photos. Among the competitors who won this year's WC in Milan were the entire women's sword team - Sugár Battai, Anna Márton, Liza Pusztai, Luca Szűcs -, the individual gold medalist duelist Máté Koch, and Tamás Decsi from the men's sword team.

This was followed by the actual flashmob, i.e. the five-minute freestyle fencing, and as a conclusion, a group photo was taken from the balcony of the Sándor Palace.
