Would love to see a third Mamma Mia! In a movie, Meryl Streep said in an interview.
Vogue recently published a memoir in which Mamma Mia! former stars of the musical, including Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper and Stellan Skarsgard, talked about the former production and toyed with the idea of a third film, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
I'm in for anything, Oscar-winner Streep said in the interview, adding that she has to schedule a minor knee surgery before filming, but if they come up with a script that piques her interest, she's absolutely in.
The 2008 Mamma Mia! ten years later Mamma Mia! In the sequel Never Stop, it was revealed that in the meantime Donna, played by Streep, has already died, and her daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) wants to open her former hotel in memory of her mother.
As she works on this, she learns more and more about Donna's past and how she met the three men she believes to be Sophie's father. In flashback scenes, young Donna is played by Lily James. Streep did not appear in the film, but she did appear at the end.
Judy Craymer, the film's producer, recalled that she received a lot of criticism from fans on social media due to Donna's death, but, as she explained, this turn was necessary because it was uncertain whether Streep would participate in the production, as she is known not to shoot sequels.
He added that when Streep did return to shoot the sequel scenes, she felt very comfortable with the crew, and perhaps this experience made her more open to another part.
Streep said that she had already spoken to Judy Craymer about Donna's return, and among the ideas was a soap opera twist in which it turns out that it wasn't Donna who died, but her twin.
However, in addition to Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper and Stellan Skarsgard also stated that they would be happy to reprise their roles if a good script was created. And Craymer also emphasized that if it were up to him, the third episode would have already been filmed. It has to be done because the viewers want it, he said.
