The other day, the citizens of Ferencváros had an almost unbelievable sight when they were faced with the fact that some people were washing the public trash cans in the fountains.

Ferencváros chose a special way of saving: the IX. The bins located near Markusovszky tér in the district are washed in the water of the well located in the public area. This has a serious epidemiological risk.

Family physician Dr. Tamás Bense told Metropol about the dangers of washing trash cans in public areas, in the fountain, which people can come into contact with.

Washing out the trash can should be done separately, given that a lot of things can get into it - stressed Dr. Tamás Bense.

The general practitioner drew attention to the fact that this "very many things" also include things that pose a health and epidemiological risk if someone washes the bins in such a part of the public area. Not to mention that this is not appropriate even if we throw out the garbage in bags. The bag can be damaged, torn or soaked very easily.

"Many things include human and animal excrement. Take, for example, just changing diapers or the fact that not every place has a trash can for dog excrement. Or, for example, drug residues can get into it," added the general practitioner.

According to the family doctor, the garbage cans should only be cleaned and washed in a place where the water that flows down during washing cannot be absorbed into the ground. This requires a concreted surface. It is important that this is a concreted collection surface where running water is available and has a closed drain. This can hardly be said of a public fountain.

"This in itself means a huge possibility of infection, because anyone who comes into contact with bacteria - for example, children who can reach into the water, can touch the surface where the bins were washed before or pick something up from the ground - many diseases can be expected there . This usually affects the stomach and the intestinal canal, so vomiting and diarrhea may occur, which can last for several weeks and lead to dehydration and hospitalization," noted Dr. Tamás Bense.

Maybe there is a fountain nearby, it is probably easier for them to wash the trash there and not worry about the consequences, but this can create a really dangerous situation, added the specialist.

The question is whether the workers were instructed to do this by their superiors in the name of economy, or whether they chose this solution out of laziness. In any case, the washing of the bins was carried out in a visibility vest with the following text: "For the cleanliness of Ferencváros". If this is how they imagine cleanliness in Ferencváros, that's a big problem!
