They shot at a joint Serbian-Hungarian patrol group from the Vojvodina side of the border near Mórahalom; no one was injured, the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) announced on the police website on Tuesday.
It was written that in the Mórahalom area, a four-member Serbian-Hungarian joint patrol group detected at least four single shots and several short bursts of shots fired from the direction of Serbia into the airspace and then towards them at the temporary security border barrier on Thursday at 10:30 p.m.
The police also reported the sound of a projectile hitting their immediate vicinity to their commanders, who decided to withdraw immediately, so the police retreated from the line of fire; Nobody was injured. The shots were presumably fired by several serial-firing weapons, most likely by members of human trafficking gangs with an illegal migrant background.
The Serbian and Hungarian authorities held a border meeting to investigate the border violation. The Csongrád-Csanád County Police Headquarters initiated proceedings against an unknown suspect on suspicion of misusing a firearm or ammunition.
