On Friday, the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag) commemorated people who were persecuted for their sexual orientation or gender identity during the Nazi regime during a memorial session held on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.

In the Bundestag, a commemoration was held for the 27th time in honor of the victims of National Socialism, and the issue of the persecution of sexual minorities was the central theme of the event for the first time.
The main speaker of the memorial meeting, Rozette Kats, a Dutch Holocaust survivor, emphasized that every single persecuted person deserves full commemoration with respect.

It is not right to avoid the persecution of sexual minorities at commemorations, because if the victims are not equal, if certain groups of them are considered less valuable than the others, then "the National Socialist ideology lives on and still makes its impact felt today", said Rozette Kats, who noted in her speech that he does not belong to any sexual minority.
