The Tragedy of Man in World Literature - An exhibition titled "Translations and Translators of Madách's Works from 1862 to the Present Day" opened, and a conference on Madách's translators and works began on Thursday at the National Library of Foreign Languages.
At the opening of the jubilee exhibition and conference organized on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Imre Madách and the 140th anniversary of the premiere of The Tragedy of Man, Minister of Culture and Innovation János Csák highlighted that Madách's work is the best modern parable of human existence and progress.
As he said, he was able to summarize the changes and adversities in the history of mankind during modernity, while human nature really does not change - Madách's work is proof of this.
Dávid Rózsa, director general of the National Széchényi Library, emphasized: it is good to be a speaker of a language whose linguistic and poetic achievements can be read in many languages.
The Tragedy of Man was translated 113 times and appeared in 216 editions, he added.
