The war in Ukraine is horrible, more and more people are dying every day, families are being torn apart and tens of thousands of children are left without fathers, the government spokesman wrote in a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, highlighting that Hungary already provides education for 5,200 Ukrainian children who fled the war here.

Alexandra Szentkirályi explained: it is important for Hungary to help the integration of people seeking refuge here from the war-torn area, but at the same time, she expects the rights of the Hungarian minority living in Transcarpathia to be ensured in Ukraine as well.

He emphasized that lives can only be saved with peace and a ceasefire. "In addition, we stand up even if the pressure of the war supporters is getting stronger!" he added.

Alexandra Szentkirályi also published a video in which Ukrainian children present themselves at their school in Hungary. In the recording, the spokesperson said that families fleeing war-torn Ukraine found a home in Hungary.

He said: 5,200 Ukrainian children are currently studying in Hungarian schools and kindergartens, they are provided with the use of their mother tongue and are helped to integrate into the communities.

He also mentioned that the state provides free education for children, free textbooks and five hours of individual language preparation per week as a separate subsidy.

In schools, children can socialize with their peers of a similar age, play, and feel safe, which helps to dissolve the tension caused by the war that has accumulated in them, Alexandra Szentkirályi noted.

Norbert Pál, the government commissioner responsible for those fleeing the Russian-Ukrainian war to Hungary, stated in the video: "we are carrying out the largest humanitarian aid in our history".

He added that more than 1,200,000 people fled to Hungary since the beginning of the war.

The government spokesperson, after thanking the teachers working with Ukrainian children for their work, pointed out: "we are neighbors and we help in times of trouble." At the same time, he stressed: the rights of Hungarian children in Ukraine are just as important as the rights of Ukrainian children in our country.
