The European Commission's decision to suspend payments to Palestine was reversed.

The Magyar Nemzet Enlargement Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi, referring to the announcement made on social media, writes that all EU payments to the Palestinians will be suspended with immediate effect.

As the biggest donor to the Palestinians, the European Commission is reviewing its entire development portfolio, totaling €691 million"

– the newspaper quoted Várhelyi's words.

But Josep Borrell, EU Commissioner responsible for foreign and security policy, stated that they would continue to send aid to the Palestinians.

Magyar Nemzet writes: after the decision to suspend payments to Palestine was criticized by several European governments, it was finally withdrawn at an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers.

The overwhelming majority of ministers opposed the proposal to suspend payments to the Palestinian Authority. This is what matters

- stressed Josep Borrell, who says that they can review the money to check if anything is leaking to Hamas.

The High Commissioner also added that only two or maybe three countries did not agree to withdraw the decision. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in connection with the incident:

"While the European Union generously supports the Palestinians despite the attack, the funds due to Hungary continue to be withheld, despite the fact that these funds go to us. According to European rules, we have to pay these EU funds whether we like it or not"

stated the foreign minister.
