Semmelweis, a new Hungarian film about the life of the world-famous Hungarian doctor, will be shown in Hungarian cinemas from November 30.

The title role of Lajos Koltai's new film is played by H. Miklós Vecsei, the midwife's assistant is played by Katica Nagy, according to the release of the distributor. The romantic film evokes the atmosphere of 19th-century Vienna, the tragedies of the hospital of the time, and the contrasts between Austrian and Hungarian doctors.

Ignác Semmelweis is seen as a legend today, but in his own time he was seen quite differently. The Hungarian doctors in Vienna believed him to be crazy, the Austrian doctors considered him unbearably violent, whose only concern was the health of the mothers entrusted to him, and for the head of the clinic he was his living conscience, because if Semmelweis's theory is true and the obstetricians spread it, it is deadly for the mothers disease, then they are all murderers.

In Lajos Koltai's new film, in addition to the main characters, László Gálffi, Tamás Kovács, Ferenc Lengyel, Nelli Szűcs, Ferenc Elek, Lajos Kovács, Anna Györgyi, Attila Csapó, István Znamenák, Károly Hajduk, Simon Kornél, Blanka Mészáros and Lilla Kizlinger also played an important role.

Semmelweis is produced with the support of the National Film Institute, produced by Szupermodern Filmstúdió, produced by Tamás Lajos and Vida Joe, cinematographer András Nagy, and screenplay written by Balázs Maruszki.

The dramaturg of the film is Kriszta Goda, the visual designer is Pater Sparrow, the costume designer is Györgyi Szakács, and the editor is Zoltán Kovács.
