In the framework of the evening, the 1956 revolution and freedom struggle will be remembered under the leadership of Katalin Kardos of the Éltető Lélek Irodalmi Kör Egyesület, as well as József Kis, director of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Archives of MNL
.

The revolution that broke out on October 23, 1956, and later the freedom struggle, is a series of events in our modern history that almost every Hungarian family remembers regularly, but certainly as October 23 approaches. Who because, having suffered the communist terror of the 1950s, they awaited radical change, the return of national freedom, and then suffered the humiliation of retaliation.

Others remember the revolution, perhaps even with a word against it, because they escaped accountability and were able to once again become at the mercy of the authorities. Of course, both sides mourned their dead.

The public discourse, and even the festive speeches, pay little attention to the communist terror of the 1950s, even though this terror, which thinned out everything, even their own ranks, was the trigger of the resistance that ultimately - in Debrecen, Miskolc, Szeged accepting the initiatives of university students - led to the outbreak of the revolution on October 23, 1956.

On February 25, 2018, the CÖF Club Miskolc announced that its members, supporters and those who join us in spiritual communion could write their own stories about the communist terror of the years before the 1956 revolution.

We were waiting for the stories that our families, relatives and close acquaintances suffered during the years of communism. We also looked forward to stories that wanted to show the inhumanity of retaliation. Our goal was to leave authentic stories for posterity, for the young people, who often - even if they hear about '56 - cannot authenticate them. This year, our initiative was crowned with success, several schools in Miskolc welcome us for an open history lesson.

Of course, the question always arises, besides those who lived through '56, who is interested in '56 and the communist terror leading up to '56. I confess with faith that many people besides the members of the "CÖF Club Miskolc family" feel that '56 is theirs, because there are many sympathizers who, for some reason, do not make it or cannot come to us, but in their hearts they are children of the nation.

This can be seen in the increased interest in our meetings, where we discuss the fate of our country with confidence mixed with concern. But it is especially visible at the Peace Marches in the tumultuous crowd of young people marching in friendship with a liberated spirit and even younger, older and even older people, who know that the cradle of our national sovereignty is the popular uprising in the fall of 1956, the causes of which can be found in the communist terror of the '50s.

The CÖF Klub Miskolc would like to make a determined contribution to making the history of Hungary's recent past known through real events, and to eradicating the falsification of history.

We welcome our members, sympathizers, civilians, civil foundations and associations working with us, as well as members of other organizations from Miskolc and the Miskolc area on October 18, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. at the House of Science and Technology in Miskolc, who would like to refresh their spirits at our celebration commemorating the unity formed to preserve our national independence. and mentally bowing before the heroes.
