The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to the Agerpres news agency that the Ukrainian authorities informed Bucharest about the death of a Romanian citizen in Ukraine. He also announced that the staff of the Romanian Consulate General in Chernivtsi will assist in transporting the body home.
According to the Romanian news agency, it is Rudolf Wittmann from Arad, who volunteered to take part in the fighting on the Ukrainian side last year. According to the news portal Aradihírek.ro, the former student of Csíky Gergely High School died on Sunday, and several of his acquaintances from Arad said goodbye to him on social media.
According to the public life portal Krónika.ro, Rudolf Wittmann is the first Romanian victim of the war in Ukraine started by Russia last year. Referring to press information, the portal said that in the past year and a half, about 1,500 mercenaries of Romanian nationality fought in the units of the Ukrainian army.
