The German National Association of Magyarpolány presented a new sacred-tourist hiking trail, the Via Calvaria, as part of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program.

A new pilgrimage route is designated in the picturesque Balaton highlands

The Via Calvaria in Hungary is a north-transdanubian hiking trail that connects the Calvary buildings of fourteen settlements with mostly German roots. can travel from one calvary to the next through beautiful Pannonian landscapes, in the Bakony and on the hills of the Balaton highlands

ON THE WAY, THEY CAN SPEND TIME IN QUIET, SOUL-LIFTING PLACES ("SILENT MOUNTAINS").

The calvaries built over the past three hundred years represent outstanding cultural, natural and built heritage, which are definitely worth visiting. The new hiking trail connects them.

Via Calvaria is the way of the Silent Hills

Via Calvaria was not named the Way of the Silent Hills by chance. It is a north-transdanubian hiking trail that connects fourteen Kálvária buildings with each other through the forests of the Bakony and the wonderful landscapes of the Balaton highlands. During the journey, the participants can not only enjoy the scenery, but also have the opportunity to experience the essence of slow tourism,

THE TURN INWARD, THE DEEPENING AND THE SILENCE.

Regarding the hiking trails, it is important to know that they go in places that cannot be accessed by car. The goal is specifically to walk the given route on foot, by bicycle, or even on horseback, but in any case with a device that helps to calm down.

It does not affect the already existing pilgrimage routes in the area

The planning of the routes is linked to the name of János Futó, the former director of the Zirci Museum of Natural Sciences and geologist. The expert paid special attention to the fact that it does not affect the Kéktúra, crossing Jakab-uta and Mária-uta only in some places. So create a completely new route that involves special natural phenomena.

THE HIKING ROUTES CONNECT BAKONY'S MOST BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES, VILLAGES AND ORVARIES.

  1. section: Bakonybél – Zirc
  2. section: Zirc - Jásd
  3. section: Magyarpolány – Városlőd

The designation of the entire hiking route is expected to be completed in the fall of 2023. Hikers and pilgrims can use the QR codes displayed at each calvary to get to know the specific sacred buildings and their surroundings.

On November 10, on the eve of St. Martin's Day, there will be a German-language lantern procession to the Vörötö calvary, where the St. Martin's Day lights will be lit with the participation of German schoolchildren.
