Mayor László Kiss (DK) "favored" the needy in Óbuda with rotting, moldy, lousy quality potatoes from abroad. Residents' groups revealed that the Óbuda municipality sold cheap fodder potatoes imported from Germany and relabelled at a discount to the district's pensioners.
This year, the left-wing Óbuda municipality failed to organize the traditional autumn potato fair without any problems either. An abundance of complaining posts and angry commenters overwhelmed the social media forums after the residents unwrapped the cheap potatoes they took home from the distribution points in Óbuda. Residents report poor quality and already rotting conditions.
It should be noted: the DK Mayor László Kiss offers a recipe in a high-quality accompanying letter with his face printed alongside the potatoes.
It is worth noting that the public potato market at the beginning of autumn was introduced by István Tarlós after the system change in 1990, and until 2018, the event, which has become a tradition, was held every year without a mistake.
But since 2019, the discount fair has been surrounded by continuous adversity. Two years ago, for example, only a few people were able to buy the discounted potatoes, because the employees of the municipality only sold potatoes to those who could prove that their pension was low.
