The Austrian ambassador to Budapest was appointed on Friday morning after Karl Pachner, the director responsible for online content of the Austrian public television (Austrian Radio and Television - ORF), launched a tasteless attack on Viktor Orbán. In his Facebook post, he stated that Viktor Orbán's heart attack would be a "fair thing". He added that Europe could be "happier and more peaceful" and that the world would be a better place without Viktor Orbán, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Austrian journalist was so outraged by the fact that the Hungarian government did not change its position known for many weeks - against which no one spoke at the summit in Brussels earlier this week - regarding the sanctioning of Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church. Hungary did not approve the finalization of the sixth package of sanctions until the patriarch was removed from the list of persons affected by punitive measures.

According to Pachner, he was misunderstood and apologized

Pachner then removed his post and apologized for the crude language on Thursday afternoon.

"Of course, I do not wish for Orbán's death, despite the fact that some Facebook users read this from my sarcastic text," he wrote in his post .

Zoltán Kovács: After that, the minimum is for him to resign

Zoltán Kovács, the Hungarian government's secretary of state responsible for international communication, reacted to Karl Pachner's statement on Thursday evening . He wrote:

"Due to Karl Pachner's rude and deeply shocking statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade appoints Austria's ambassador to Budapest by Friday morning and requests an explanation for the scandalous statement of the head of the Austrian state media. Mr. Pachner's immediate resignation and departure from public life after this is a moral minimum."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed the Austrian ambassador

The scandal does not end with the apology: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed the Austrian ambassador in Budapest by Friday morning.

Due to the rude and deeply shocking expression, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is appointing Austria's ambassador to Budapest by Friday morning and is asking for an explanation of the scandalous statement of the head of the Austrian state media, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the Index news portal.
