According to Politico's sources, the EU thinks it has an influence on the Middle East conflict, but in fact it doesn't at all.

Brussels has no influence on the situation in Gaza, wrote Politico . According to the portal, the EU leaders' idea that an international peace conference should be held on the Middle East conflict,

undermined by divisions within the bloc and the insignificance of the EU.

The proposed meeting was supposed to take place within six months, but according to the report, little progress had been made in the organization a week after the proposal was made. There are no answers to the most important questions, such as who would be the host and who would be invited.

According to a Politico source

European heads of state "only look at their own navels",

and they are playing to their domestic audience as they have little practical ability to influence the Israel-Hamas war or the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza.

"This is a typical intra-EU debate that has nothing to do with the reality on the ground"

an EU official said about the summit idea.

Unlike the United States or the Arab countries, the Europeans have no real influence on the situation, so

it is the classic arrogance of the EU that it thinks it has a role here"

he said.

"The EU will not be able to hold such a conference because of internal disagreements, but also because it lacks credibility," says Erwin van Veen, senior researcher at the Dutch Clingendael Institute.
