Bálint Pásztor, the vice-chairman of the Vojvodina Hungarian Federation (VMSZ), was entrusted with the duties of party chairman by the party's council after the death of party chairman István Pásztor, the press service of the VMSZ announced on Monday.
István Pásztor, who led the largest Hungarian party in the southern region for 16 years, died on October 30, at the age of 67, after a short, serious illness.

István Pásztor's son, Bálint Pásztor, is the vice-chairman of the VMSZ, the leader of the parliamentary faction of the Republic, and the chairman of the city representative body of Szatka.
The politician will remain acting president of the party until the next general assembly of the VMSZ.
According to the VMSZ's information, "in this difficult period, given the announcement of the republican parliamentary elections, the VMSZ cannot remain without a leader", and the VMSZ's council "sees in Bálint Pásztor the guarantee that he can continue the work he has started, that he can carry on the huge political legacy that István Pásztor left to them".
Early parliamentary elections will be held in Serbia on December 17.
The Vojvodina Hungarian Association said in this regard: the party is united and "everyone is guided by the goal of achieving an election result on December 17 that would make István Pásztor proud".
