There are situations when it is worthwhile to set aside legitimate party political differences or even differences of opinion in order to represent common interests, Katalin Novák stated in Brussels on Wednesday.

The head of state invited all Hungarian MEPs, regardless of political party, to the Liszt Institute in Brussels for a joint exchange of ideas. At Wednesday's closed-door meeting, alongside Fidesz EP representatives (Kinga Gál, Enikő Győri, Edina Tóth, Andrea Bocskor, Lívia Járóka, Tamás Deutsch, Balázs Hidvéghi, Andor Deli, Ádám Kósa, Ernő Schaller-Baross and László Trócsányi), György Hölvényi ( KDNP), as well as Gyula Winkler and Loránt Vincze, EP representatives of the RMDSZ, took part. From the opposition side, the only social democratic EP representative István Ujhelyi appeared.

In her speech, Katalin Novák emphasized that she wants to address all Hungarian members of the European Parliament, because "there are matters in which national unity is important", and there are situations when it is worthwhile to set aside legitimate differences in party politics or differences in outlook, in order to " to be able to unite for the interests that no one else will represent in Europe but us".

He called it a missed opportunity when "there is no one on the other side to hold an outstretched hand", referring to the meeting.

He said: he recommends a partnership to the Hungarian EP representatives, because when it comes to important Hungarian interests, efforts must be made to find the possibility of joint action to strengthen the promotion of Hungarian interests.

"What, in my opinion, is now a significant and striking issue is that Hungary can get access to the European Union funds that it is rightfully entitled to. It can be a good basis for this if the Hungarian EP representatives can form a united front on this issue," added Katalin Novák.

During his first three-day visit to Brussels, which began on Wednesday, the President of the Republic held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Belgium and the Secretary General of NATO.

At the press conference after the last meeting, he stated: security is key for Hungary and the Hungarian people, and NATO membership guarantees security for both the country and the wider region.

Katalin Novák emphasized that peace and stability are of fundamental importance for Hungary.

Hungary contributes to the success of NATO missions, strengthens its defense and develops its military capacity, it will soon fulfill its obligation to spend two percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) on defense spending, and the presence of Hungarian soldiers contributes to the peace and stability of the Western Balkan region, he emphasized. the president of the republic.

Katalin Novák emphasized: Hungary supports Ukraine's right to self-defense and continues to provide humanitarian assistance to the country. He said that Hungary condemns and considers Russia's aggression against independent Ukraine unacceptable.

"However, the most important thing is to find the paths leading to peace, as well as to find how to sit at the table of peace negotiations and achieve a cease-fire," he said.

He emphasized: there cannot be a relationship between Hungary and Russia that could undermine the relations with allies and the fulfillment of commitments within the framework of NATO and the European Union.

Regarding the conflict in the Middle East, he emphasized: Hungary sympathizes most deeply with Israel and condemns the brutal attack against it, which - according to his words - draws attention to the importance of stability in the region.

In response to a journalist's question about Sweden's NATO accession, he said that the country's membership would contribute to the strengthening of NATO and thus to common security.

Regarding the situation of the Transcarpathian Hungarian minority, he stated: the situation of the national minorities in Ukraine is extremely important for Hungary, especially with regard to the Hungarian national minority.

"It is extremely important to respect minority rights, especially when a country has ambitions to join our alliances," he said. This is a priority issue for Hungary, the solution of which is necessary in order to maintain its supportive attitude in Ukraine's challenging struggle, President of the Republic Katalin Novák added at her press conference.
