The ten-day Ars Hungarica cultural festival in Sibiu, which takes place between November 10 and 19, begins on Friday.

The events of this year's 18th cultural festival are aimed at the Hungarians of Nagyszeben and Szeben county, the mixed families here and the Romanian majority living in the city. Visitors regularly come to the events from several settlements in the scattered counties of Inner Transylvania, the organizer HÍD Egyesület announced.

The opening will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Thalia Concert Hall, where the audience can hear a performance by Attacca World Music and dulcimer artist Kálmán Balogh entitled Bihar, compiled from the collections of Béla Bartók. The exhibition "Hungarian artists from the Brukenthal National Museum's contemporary fine art collection" will also open on Friday, featuring works by Ferenc Incze, Miklós Borsos, Mária Bodor, Imre Nagy, András Kós, Imre Gyenge, István Orth and Róbert Strebeli, among others.

On Saturday, Szegedi's Alice Torella's exhibition Babies will be opened, and Ágnes Maksay Listen, howling wind, let me speak! will be screened, followed by an audience meeting. The next day, the public can see Mónika Paduret's exhibition and Nagy Botond's photo exhibition, and the day ends with Katalin Benedekffy's evening entitled A touch of Transylvania.

On Monday, November 13, another exhibition will open in the mayor's office, the XXIII World Association of Hungarian Photographers. From the award-winning photographs of the International-Hungarian Photo Salon, and in the Gyergyószárhegy Cultural and Art Center's production, Tamás Gyopár's puppet show Csihán Csihán's puppet show is presented.

Pianist Levente Béres' concert presenting the works of Hungarian and Romanian composers will be held on Tuesday, the film about Carola Szilvássy entitled A maga nasztere sönt és liberton will be shown on Wednesday, followed by an audience meeting. On Thursday, the small ensemble Tekergők from Sepsiszentgyörgy treats children to an interactive concert.

On the second weekend of Ars Hungarica, the Gyulai Castle Theater presents But what happened to the woman? performance directed by László Béres. On Saturday, the German and Hungarian presentation of Imre Madách's book The Tragedy of Man, containing illustrations by István Orth, will be held, and in the evening, the Nóra Tasi & Péter Sárosi Duo will perform.

On the closing day, works by Kodály and Ligeti will be performed by soprano Melinda Samson and pianist and organist Noémi Miklós, and the audience in Sibiu can see Sándor Petőfi's The Hammer of the Local in the Bekecs Dance Theatre.

Some of the programs of the cultural festival also reach the nearby Vízakna, Katalin Benedekffy's book and performance entitled A touch of Transylvania, Ágnes Petőfi Maksay's documentary about her travels in Transylvania, and Levente Béres' piano recital will also be held here.
