The district court in Brasov invalidated the government decision made last June on the adoption of György Sepsiszent's flag. The order is not yet final.

The administrative division of the adjudication board upheld the objection of two Romanian associations: the civil association for Dignity in Europe (ADEC), which has initiated hundreds of lawsuits against Hungarian symbols and inscriptions, later intervened in the procedure initiated by the Civil Forum of the Romanians of Kovászna, Hargita and Maros Counties.

The mayor of Sepsiszentgyörgy, Antal Árpád, said at a press conference last December: as far as he knows, the two organizations miss symbols referring to the "presence of Romanians" and regrets that the city flag contains the colors of the Székely flag (gold and blue).

The government in Bucharest adopted the decision approving the official use of the flag of the Székelyföld city at the suggestion of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (RMDSZ), which participates in the coalition. According to the announcement of the RMDSZ, Sepsiszentgyörgy's flag has gold and blue stripes, with the settlement's coat of arms in the middle. The settlement's coat of arms is shield-shaped, with the castle and the church in a blue field, above it a golden Sun and a silver Moon. In front of the castle, there are three green fields, on which you can see St. George on horseback and the dragon, which gave the settlement its name.

"In recent years, our community's right to freely use its symbols has often been denied. This is precisely why the RMDSZ intended the officialization of the flags and coats of arms of the Transylvanian settlements as an important task of its government work," the association's newsletter quoted Deputy Prime Minister Kelemen Hunor, president of the RMDSZ. The politician added: the goal is for all communities to feel at home in their homeland, and the free use of symbols contributes greatly to this.

According to the annual summary of the Ministry of Development and Public Administration, led by RMDSZ official Attila Cseke, last year RMDSZ adopted the coats of arms and flags of more than thirty Hungarian settlements in Transylvania with the Bucharest government, "obtaining a legal guarantee for the free use of the symbols".

Romanian municipalities apply to the Ministry of Development and Public Administration for the acceptance of local symbols after consultation with the vexillology and heraldry committee, and the local council decided on this issue. The department then submits the symbols to the government, which confirms their legal use in a decision.
