The Bükki Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired is holding a presentation entitled "Audiobooks in the blind world" in various elementary schools in the region. Most recently, the actor András Lajos told stories to the children at the Greek Catholic Primary School in Miskolc, but Mike, the mole with the white stick, also made his debut here.

- The program has had six or eight stops so far: we visited schools in Miskolc, Edelény, but we also visited Budapest - association president Péter Takács minap.hu The most recent event was held last Wednesday at the Greek Catholic Primary School in Miskolc, where 190 students from six classes attended the performance.

- In the spring, we had a similar program at the Greek Catholic Primary School, Kindergarten and Elementary School of Art in Edelényi Szent Miklós. We thought we would also contact the church-run institution in Miskolc to see if they would be interested in our unusual literature class. Ms. Mária Eperjesiné Bolykó, deputy director, indicated shortly afterwards that we are warmly welcomed.

In the first part of the program, Péter Takács spoke briefly to the children about the association and the audiobooks that have been recorded in recent years, as well as the history of the genre. He also told about the everyday life of the blind and visually impaired.

– I have noticed that many people treat the blind as some sort of miracle bug. They see us as a mythical creature, like the unicorn or the giant. On the other hand, by getting to know each other better during one of these classes, they might realize that we are actually the same as others, we struggle with the same problems, but we just don't see each other. .

Several practical questions were asked by the children, such as how to help a visually impaired person during everyday traffic.

– In this case, you have to say things that are useful information for us as well. We can't do anything with the directions, for example, "to the right after the green gate". Directions must be given, but it also helps to know how many streets away my destination is, because I can find my way based on intersections.

After the conversation, the popular artist of the National Theater of Miskolc, András Lajos - who, by the way, is a permanent member of the unusual literature classes organized by the association and the "organ provider" of several audiobooks published by them - read to Géza Gárdonyi from Mi szúzá, malac úrfiak? his tale, which was received with great applause by the understanding audience.

The new character of the unusual literature lesson, Mike (pronounced "Májk" - editor), the mole, was also introduced. The hand puppet was brought to life by Ferenc Varsányi, the vice president of the association. Mike can't see well compared to moles, so he uses a white stick. If he goes this way and that in the big world, he tends to get lost, and in this case he needs the help of the audience.

- Among the children participating in one of the programs of the lecture series, there will surely be someone who, as an adult, will be in a position where he will have to make decisions regarding people with disabilities. Our goal is that the blind are not seen as miracle workers, and as a result, better decisions affecting the visually impaired will be made in the future - said Péter Takács about the long-term benefit of the literature classes.
