Romanians consider Hungary to be the second most dangerous, but only half of the population would defend Romania in the event of an attack.
While Hungary is at the top of the list of countries considered dangerous for Romania, just over half of Romanians would be willing to defend their country armed in the event of an attack, according to a recent survey published by kronikaonline.ro .
According to the survey conducted by the pollster Inscop on behalf of the New Strategy Center, 56.4 percent of respondents believe that Russia poses a threat to Romania.
Hungary is in second place - admittedly, well behind, with 8.6 percent.
In third place is a surprising actor: the United States, which, as the country's strategic partner, is considered the primary point of alignment by the current Romanian governments.
Despite this, 8.2 percent of the respondents believe that Romania is dangerous - and thus ahead of China, which is in fourth place with 6.6 percent, and Ukraine with 4 percent.
During the survey, they were also asked whether the respondents would be willing to defend the country if it were to be attacked by armed forces.
50.5 percent of the respondents answered yes to this,
11.8 percent would rather hide, 19.4 percent would emigrate, 5.6 percent would obtain a medical certificate proving unfitness, and 4.7 percent would avoid military service in other ways.
They were also asked about current world political affairs, including who the respondents consider responsible for the war in Gaza.
35.7 percent of those surveyed consider Hamas responsible, 9.6 percent the United States, 9 percent Israel, 7.1 percent the Arab countries, 6.6 percent Russia, and 4.2 percent Iran.
49.8 percent hold Russia responsible for the war in Ukraine, 14.6 percent the United States, 8.8 percent Ukraine, 4.6 percent NATO, and 2.9 percent the EU.
When asked who would win the war in Ukraine, 34.5 percent thought that Ukraine would win, 32.6 percent said that Russia would win, while 32.9 percent could not or did not want to answer.
In relation to the solutions leading to the end of the war, 64.7 percent said that Russia should withdraw and return the occupied territories to Ukraine, while 24.5 percent said that Ukraine should make concessions.
According to 41.6 percent, the biggest fear regarding the war in Ukraine is the increase in prices and the cost of living, 23.9 percent say that Russia will attack a NATO member state, and 12.1 percent are worried about the increase in the number of refugees. 19.5 percent answered that they were not afraid of anything related to the war.
The survey also examined the relationship with the EU and NATO.
Accordingly
only 25.7 percent of the respondents would support leaving the EU, 70.3 percent would rather stay inside, while in the case of NATO, 18.9 percent support the exit and 77.3 percent support the stay.
The fact that NATO member states and the United States are sending more soldiers to Romania is viewed favorably by 57.1 percent of respondents, as they protect Romania from Russia. 35.5 percent, on the other hand, are not happy about it, as they think it annoys the Russians.
