In Hungary, more than 300,000 families are missing one parent, and half of these families are poor.

This year, the Single-parent Center will surprise 200 single-parent families in Budapest and the same number in rural areas with gift packages worth HUF 40,000 each.

Those involved in the delivery of the donations - athletes and representatives of sports associations - received the packages on Thursday so that they could be handed over by Christmas. Anna Nagy, head of the Single Parent Center, spoke at the event about the fact that more than 300,000 families in Hungary are missing one parent, and half of these families are poor.

He added: this year, the center will donate HUF 16 million to single-parent families to make their holiday easier and more beautiful.

Ádám Schmidt, the state secretary responsible for sports, spoke at the event about how the Single Parents' Club Foundation, which operates the Single-Parent Center, helps single-parent families living in difficult situations to have the kind of Christmas that everyone hopes for. He said that, as the state secretary responsible for sports, it is a special pleasure for him that the sports community can also contribute to this.

Typically, the mother raises her child alone, but in 40,000 families, the father does this.

He emphasized: the foundation deals with these families. The first Single Parent Center in Budapest was opened in May 2018, and one was also opened in Buda last March. He noted: they were able to help 30,000 families in the last almost six years.

He added: this year, the Single Parent Center wants to make the holiday of those affected easier and more beautiful with four hundred donations worth a total of HUF 16 million.
