They damaged the nativity scene on the main square in Makó - the nativity scene that was chosen as the most beautiful in the country in 2020. The municipality filed a report with the police.

There is a huge indignation in the city after someone - certainly under the cover of night - damaged the nativity scene set up in the main square of Makó, not far from the fountain. The published photos of the vandalism show how the figures of the sculpture complex were destroyed - for example, the baby Jesus was broken into pieces, the head of one of the three kings was cut off, but the animals were not spared either.

Under the photos of the smashed figures published on the biggest social media site, the commenters express their shock and demand exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.

In the post, people from Makó who have any information about the vandals are asked to report to the police. By the way, the area is monitored by several cameras - it is possible that their recordings will help to find the perpetrators.

The people of Mako met Nativity for the first time in 2020 during Advent at Makovecz Square.

It was completed the year after local art teacher Anikó Bertus-Barcza won the Hungarofest Nkft. and the 10 million HUF grand prize of the Hungarian Tourist Agency. The work was completed with this money. The recognition also meant that it was chosen as the most beautiful nativity scene in the country. Placed in a pavilion decorated with the star of Bethlehem, the artistically beautiful figures of the traditional scene experience the moment of Jesus' birth in front of a cave under the starry sky.

Local government representative Szilvia Csermák took photographs of the damaged porcelain figurines. He told Délmagyarország that Zsolt Zsámboki, the councilor for public safety of the local government, filed a report on the matter at the Makó police station on Tuesday.

As soon as the investigation is concluded, they will try to restore and glue the broken figures - however, it is not yet known whether this is possible at all, or what they will look like after possible repairs.

Around the same time, the town's Christmas tree on Makovecz square was also vandalized, as well as several stalls nearby.
