A high school teacher in Sweden has been suspended after giving students an assignment in which they had to plan a hypothetical terrorist attack in detail. According to the suspended teacher, the essence of the assignment is being misinterpreted.
According to the task, the students of the Jönköping secondary school had to work out how to carry out a planned terrorist attack with a chemical or biological substance, reported on the case based on the news of Remix News .
They had to plan the attack in such a way that as many innocent civilians as possible were victims of it.
The students also had to think about what material they would choose, where and at what time of day they would carry out the actions. Furthermore, they had to formulate a "political statement".
The task was to be completed by the students in an English class, during which several students expressed their displeasure with the way the task was carried out and expressed their concern to the school. The education authority later described the assignment as "inappropriate and insensitive" and suspended the teacher without pay pending an investigation. The teacher protested against his suspension, as he believed that the purpose of the assignment was being misinterpreted, because he wanted to draw attention to the wrongness of terrorism. He added that he had given the assignment to the students several times before.
The incident was reported to the police, who soon after closed the case as, in their opinion, no crime had been committed.
