A network of 509 km of routes that can be traveled on horseback has been established in the Central Hungarian Region.

The route has 17 equestrian tourism stops and was created with the help of HUF 799 million in non-refundable European Union support.

At the closing event in Verőce of the project called the Competitive Central Hungary Operative Program, VEKOP-4.1.1 Creation of an active equestrian tourism network in the region of Central Hungary, János Lóska, president of the Hungarian Equestrian Tourism Public Association, recalled that from the 1960s to the 1980s until the middle of the 20th century, Hungary played a leading role in horseback riding in Europe.

After the change of regime, the opportunity was created for countless horse-riding trails to be created, but the Hungarians could neither pay nor ride, so it was necessary to think about how this sector could be developed. The equestrian tourism chapter of Kincsem - National Equestrian Program talks about the need to create the Hungarian equestrian tourism model.

A network will be created in which horse-riding tourists can follow the route independently or with a horse-riding tour guide with GPS markings, they can stop at the stops and place their horses, explained the president.

The 509-kilometer horse trail in Central Hungary - "Budapest horse ring" - is connected to the 1,800-kilometer network of horse trails in Northern Hungary and the Northern Great Plains. Riders are assisted by support systems, equestrian tourism stops are suitable for receiving and serving hikers and their horses, and other tourist services are also available, such as food, accommodation, cultural and unique programs, he pointed out.

The president of the MLTE emphasized that in Hungary you can ride freely, you can ride without harm on any forest road where it is not prohibited.

This cannot be said in Western Europe

he noted.
