Thanks to the cooperation between the government and the Hungarian National Fishing Association (MOHOSZ), the number of fishermen has doubled in the past seven years; the country's largest non-governmental organization has more than 800,000 members, said the prime minister's chief adviser in a video published on his Facebook page.

Zsolt Nyitrai said in the video:

it is in the interests of the fishermen that the government abolished commercial fishing in natural waters, suppressed poaching, MOHOSZ became the operator of most water surfaces, administration became easier with the new fishing document, it helps fish conservation with modern tools and provides subsidies to fishing associations.

He added that the government is working with the organization on the National Fishing Tourism Strategy, which can be adopted in the first half of 2024. Then, according to the hopes, the improvements that serve the comfort of fishermen and the enjoyment of their free time in dignified conditions can be gradually realized.

"The government of Hungary is working to ensure that the largest civil organization can continue to develop this year as well. I wish all fishermen a good catch in 2024! Bend!” - said Zsolt Nyitrai.

In the video, Lajos Szűcs, the president of MOHOSZ, said that the organization he leads has been a strategic partner of the government since 2014 and that they have had many successes in the past ten years, for example becoming the largest NGO in the country.

Regarding the fishing tourism strategy, he said that after its adoption, fishermen will be able to fish in better conditions.

He noted that next year they will launch an application that will help fishermen in their daily lives.
