A tragic incident in the city of Siófok shook the community on the first day of the year.
Recently, the new nativity scene erected on Fő tér was welcomed with joy, which was realized with tender funds of nearly HUF 2 million, enriching the city with many new statues. However, the joy of the city and its visitors soon turned to sadness.
In the middle of the night, an individual deliberately damaged a bale of straw in the wooden building and then started dragging it in the direction of the bus station. During the criminal's journey, the Fountain of Tears and the Millennium Park became part of the terrible act. Finally, he dragged the ball in front of the renovated music pavilion, where he set it on fire, and then destined the same fate for the nativity scene on Fő square.
The quick reaction of the fire department and the police allowed the fire to be extinguished and the valuables that could still be saved to be saved. The police immediately arrested the culprit, who came into the sight of the authorities based on the evidence recorded by the on-site cameras.
The city management and residents express their gratitude and thanks to all those who acted quickly and efficiently in the situation. The perpetrator was identified as a homeless man from another part of the country, who has a criminal record and is currently undergoing proceedings. The Siófok Police Department detained him, and now he must answer for his actions.
