In his Sunday address, Pope Francis asked for the protection of those who practice their faith even in the midst of hostility and persecution for his journey that begins in a week, in which he welcomed the opening day of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest.

In his noon speech from the window overlooking St. Peter's Square, Pope Francis reminded that he will visit Budapest next Sunday for the closing mass of the International Eucharistic Congress, from where he will continue on to Slovakia.

These days will be dedicated to prayer in the heart of Europe, said the head of the Catholic Church.

He thanked those who prepared his visit and sent his greetings in advance to all those awaiting his arrival. "I am also preparing from the bottom of my heart to meet them, and I ask everyone to follow my journey with prayer," said Pope Francis.

For his visit between September 12 and 15, the head of the Catholic Mother Church asked for protection from those who heroically practiced their faith in the locations of Europe affected by the visit, "witnessing the Gospel even in the midst of hostility and persecution." "Let them help Europe to bear witness today, not so much with words as with deeds, with deeds of mercy and acceptance," he said.

"Despite all the weaknesses and sins of its members, the light of Christ shines in the Church - Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, president of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences, has already said this.
