Last year, the number of Hungarian tourists and the number of guest nights in Croatia exceeded the record year of 2019 by more than a tenth - the representative of the Croatian Tourist Association in Budapest informed MTI on Wednesday.

According to the announcement, 728,000 Hungarian immigrants arrived in Croatia last year,

It is 21 percent more than in 2022, which is 13 percent higher than the figure of 2019, which was considered the peak so far.

The number of Hungarian guest nights was close to 3.6 million, which is a 17 percent increase compared to last year, and a 10 percent increase compared to 2019.

In February, May, October, November and December, the increase was more than 30 percent compared to 2022, which also shows that Hungarian tourists visit Croatia not only in summer, but also throughout the year, for city visits, cultural trips or active tourism. .

Last year, the most popular destinations for Hungarians were the Kvarner region, Istria, Zadar and its surroundings, and the Split region. In the area of ​​Kvarner, the previous record was broken, Hungarians spent more than one million guest nights here, 700,000 on the Istrian peninsula, and 600,000 to 600,000 nights in the counties of Zadar and Split. Regarding the individual settlements, Crikvenica, Vir, Rovinj, Porec and Opatija, as well as Medulin, are the most visited by Hungarians.

The majority of Hungarian tourists traveling to Croatia, 65 percent, stayed in private accommodation, 23 percent in hotels, and 11 percent in campsites, the data for the latter increased by 19 percent compared to 2022. Almost 100,000 guest nights were registered by Hungarian guests as boat tourists.

A total of 20.6 million tourists spent 108 million guest nights in Croatia last year. These data show a 9 percent increase in arrivals and 3 percent in the number of guest nights compared to last year.

The largest number of guest nights, 30 million - showing an increase of 2 percent compared to 2022 - were registered on the Istrian peninsula, 20.2 million in the Split-Dalmatia County, and 18.5 million in the Kvarner region. Tourists spent the most guest nights in Rovinj, Dubrovnik, Porec, Split and Umag, but in the capital, Zagreb, 13 percent more guest nights were registered last year, totaling 2.5 million.

In terms of sending markets, German tourists spent the most guest nights last year, 23.6 million, in the Adriatic state, followed by Croatians, Slovenians, Austrians and Poles. Hungary is the ninth most important sending country in tourism to Croatia.
