Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni may try to convince Viktor Orbán to support Ukraine and improve relations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
In a face-to-face meeting, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is trying to convince Viktor Orbán to give his blessing to another 50 billion euros in EU aid for Ukraine, reports the American economic newspaper Bloomberg.
On Wednesday, the EU ambassadors also discussed the issue in the hope that some sort of compromise could be reached before the extraordinary EU summit scheduled for February 1.
Viktor Orbán suggested that the aid be divided into annual instalments, but Brussels interprets this as Hungary viewing the aid as an annual blackmail opportunity, reports the Politico news portal.
According to sources who spoke anonymously to Bloomberg, Fidesz offered Meloni membership of the European Conservatives and Reformers (ECR) group if he is willing to support Ukraine's EU membership.
The Italian Prime Minister also calls for improving relations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, reports the Ukrainian news portal Kyiv Independent.
