A seven-year-old girl from Szeged behaved like a real hero, saving the lives of her little sister and her mother by getting back on her feet. The January issue of the electronic journal of the National Directorate General of Disaster Management reported on the incident that happened at Christmas, during which a little girl and her neighbor were the heroes of the day.

Eliza behaved like a true hero, on the day after Christmas, shortly after midnight, the Szeged fire department received an emergency call that the staircase of a ten-story building was completely engulfed in smoke. As it turned out, the source was an apartment on the sixth floor, where seven-year-old Eliza, her two-and-a-half-year-old sister and her mother, Viktória, lived. The family went to bed after Christmas dinner, not realizing that the oven had been left on with the oiled baking tray.

The suffocating smoke first woke up Eliza, who was sleeping in the bunk bed in the children's room, who could not wake up her mother, who was lying in the living room, so she asked for help from her mother's friend, who lived one level up.

The little girl rang the bell in the middle of the night until she woke up Sarolta and her husband, who immediately knew from the smoke that something was wrong.

The sooty-faced little girl was placed near an open window, then Sarolta went into her friend's apartment with a wet towel on her head, where she found Eliza's little sister lying on the floor in front of the bed. After taking her out of the apartment, he opened the windows, turned off the oven, and then started to wake up the unconscious mother, who inhaled a lot of smoke and barely regained consciousness.

That's when the firefighters and the police arrived, and they took everyone to safety, cooled down the pot and ventilated the apartment. Ultimately, six residents were transported to the hospital for further medical treatment.

Two days after the terrible incident, another hero of the day, Sarolta, told the Katasztrófavédelm.hu magazine about the shocking incident in the barracks in Szeged, who experienced the rescue of his girlfriend Viktória and her children from the dense smoke as the most terrible half hour of his life.

As he told me, he didn't think for a second, he knew he had to act,

although in retrospect he realized that he had put himself in danger by not waiting for help.

His own child is the same age as the little girl he rescued, and he was also a member of the volunteer firefighting association in his home village for years, so he was aware of the basics.

In the barracks in Szeged, the rescued family and the brave Sarolta personally met the firefighters who arrived at the scene that evening. A joint photo was also taken of the touching moment, which was published in the online January issue of the Disaster Management.
