The warehouses of the Hungarian farmers are full, we cannot sell the grain, the Ukrainian grain is being pushed out of the Hungarian market - said one farmer to the Civilek Info camera, summarizing why so many people showed up at the scene.
Constitutional lawyer Zoltán Lomnici Jr., spokesperson of the Civil Solidarity Forum, said on the spot that they stand by the Hungarian government when it urges the EU to reconsider the full duty-free nature of Ukrainian goods and the operation of the solidarity corridors. He emphasized that it is also considered important that Hungary, along with several EU member states, acts against Ukrainian dumping.
Norbert Heizler, the national coordinator of CÖF-CÖKA, presented Szellemi Honvéð badges to the crowd who arrived with tractors and agricultural vehicles, who voiced their dissatisfaction for hours in Záhony, even in the cold and windy weather.
Farmer demonstrations have been taking place in the territory of the European Union for weeks, which are not only about protest against the import of Ukrainian grain.
Farmers are also concerned about the negative impact of environmental protection regulations, whose compliance imposes significant costs on them without receiving sufficient financial support to maintain and develop their family farms. In addition, they are outraged that while they are subject to strict rules regarding the use of herbicides, for example, import companies from South America can bring cheap and uncontrolled products into the European Union. This means a clear market disadvantage for European farmers.
